Chapter Eleven

Penelope

I follow Ryker up the stairs. I barely want to let his hand go.

“This is my room, and the bathroom is across the hall. Let me just grab some towels, and then you can hop in the shower,” he says softly.

I immediately shake my head. “Can we just, together?” I ask. I’m not sure if I’m making sense but, after the attack, I don’t really want to let him out of my sight.

Ryker swallows hard but nods his head slowly. “A-are you sure?”

“I think it would be best. My wolf and I are having a hard time letting you out of our sight. I don’t know how much longer I can hold her off,” I say with a shrug.

He gives me an understanding look which doesn’t surprise me. Getting to know Ryker over the last few days, I can tell that he’s a kind, caring person who doesn’t judge anyone or anything. Then again, he spent his whole life being judged because of his size, so maybe he didn’t want others to feel the way that people have made him feel.

That thought has me clenching my hands into fists.

I feel a hand on my cheek, and I blink out of my thoughts and look up at him.

Ryker gives me a look of concern. “Hey, where’d you go?”

I shake my head. “Nowhere, I was just thinking about how you had to put up with so much shit growing up and I hate myself for being a part of it.”

“Don’t beat yourself up. Honestly, you didn’t really say anything bad about me. It was mostly Ashley and Isaac who started everything,” he tells me, and that cracks my heart open hearing about it.

“Still, just stood by while there were two people who I was the closest with treating you like shit. Doing nothing is as bad as bullying you myself. I should have spoken up,” I say as I feel my eyes well with tears.

Ryker shakes his head. “We can’t change what happened back then, but we can change how we go forward in the future. You don’t have to pretend with me. You don’t have to fake the smiles.”

I let out a small laugh through the tears. “See, you saw that I wasn’t completely happy, and I stood by and let everyone call you and your friends names.”

“We both grew up in different homes and had different circumstances. It doesn’t mean it was okay, but we can learn to work through it and grow together as people.”

I nod my head as we walk into the bathroom. Ryker turns the water on and takes off his shirt and pants without glancing at me. I take a good look at the man who is my mate.

He has muscles, but they aren’t bulky like a lot of pack members. He is lean and has pretty perfect definition in his body. I’m sure if he walked around like this, people wouldn’t call him scrawny because he is anything but.

I can’t help but lick my lips as he turns around and my eyes zero in on his cock.
